Julian Rowe-Jones on: What are grafts? (Video)

Top UK Rhinoplasty Surgeon, Julian Rowe-Jones on: What are grafts?

Graft

Grafts are used a lot in rhinoplasty. Grafts are shapes that are carved and inserted into the nose. There are many different shapes and types of graft. The first thing is, it is a graft natural or artificial?

Artificial graft

I never use an artificial graft in the nose, because it can get infected and rejected. Now that’s probably about a thirteen or fourteen percent risk, but I think that’s an unacceptable risk and I’ll only ever use your tissue in a nose for a graft; that’s great because it can’t get rejected.

Natural graft

Natural grafts are more difficult, you have to spend much more time carving them. You have to take them from somewhere; for example the ear or the septum of the nose, but I think that time is well-spent and is part of diligent, good rhinoplasty surgery.

A Rhinoplasty Testimonial

Outstanding all round. The surgery has improved my breathing and addressed the cosmetic issues related to primary rhinoplasty (performed elsewhere).

Thank you very much to Julian and Emma.
