A rhinoplasty – otherwise known as a ‘nose job’ – is a complicated procedure, often involving repositioning and reshaping your nasal bones. There are risks involved, and results can’t be guaranteed. In this post, I’ll talk about why things can go wrong following nose surgery, and what can be done to give you a better outcome in the future.
When things go wrong
There are lots of reasons you can be left disappointed with your nose job, including:
- Problems caused by healing
- Not following proper aftercare
- Unexpected findings and changes occurring to the nose during surgery
- Unrealistic psychological and cosmetic expectations
However, it’s important to remember that you won’t be fully healed for a few months, so it will take a while to see the full results – especially if you’ve had swelling. Also, the results of your surgery aren’t down to the procedure alone – good tissue and a good healing response are also required.
Putting things right
For whatever reason and despite you and your surgeon’s best intentions, you can be left with disappointing or unexpected results following your nose surgery. Some of my clients come to me for revision surgery after having disappointing results from another clinic.
Choosing a surgeon
It’s important to go to the best available surgeon for your treatment, as this helps ensure you’ll get the results you’re looking for. As well as having an extensive history of successful rhinoplasty operations and satisfied patients, your surgeon should also be registered with the General Medical Council for a specialty that trains in rhinoplasty. Look to see whether your surgeon has certification in cosmetic rhinoplasty by The Royal College of Surgeons of England. As a Consultant Surgeon, I, Mr Julian Rowe-Jones FRCS (ROL), am known around the world for my experience and expertise in rhinoplasty. I’m pleased to say I am a member of both these bodies and have over 25 years’ experience in performing rhinoplasties, with over a hundred positive reviews.
