Rhinoplasty patients felt 44% less lack of confidence at work after nose job, new study finds

Researchers at The Nose Clinic in Guildford working with the Centre for Appearance Research asked 90 patients to rate how much lack of self-confidence they felt about their noses at work on a scale from 0 (not at all) to 10 (all the time). Before the operation, patients rated their lack of self-confidence at work as 3.77 on the lack of self-confidence scale. After the operation, patients rated their lack of self-confidence as 1.66, a significant decrease in lack of self-confidence of 44%.

The recent study, led at The Nose Clinic by rhinoplasty specialist, Julian Rowe-Jones, revealed that patients having cosmetic nose surgery (rhinoplasty) also found their noses less noticeable, and that they worried less after their surgery. The patients were less likely to avoid work, social and sexual interactions. They also checked their appearance less.

Patients found that they were more confident at work after having Rhinoplasty

The study’s findings are consistent with many other studies that claim rhinoplasty patients feel an improvement in their self esteem and quality of life after rhinoplasty. For the majority of rhinoplasty patients, rhinoplasty outcomes are favourable and patients are very happy with their new nose. Besides that many patients also notice emotional benefits of having a nose surgery. A boost in their confidence and self esteem can lead to an advance in their workplace.

One of Mr. Rowe-Jones’s patients said after rhinoplasty surgery: “A year down the line and I am very happy with my nose, I can smell the flowers and have a great confidence about my nose, for some people, its a little thing, but if you’re on this website, you know it’s the little things that matter!”

It is important to note that the results of the study do not suggest that nose job procedure caused less nose noticeability among patients, but there is certainly a very positive association with those having the nose job procedure and the positive benefits that followed.

“The nose is one of the most noticeable features of the face”, said Mr Rowe-Jones, “and so it is understandable that if you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose, your self-confidence and sense of inner well-being may suffer.”

In a perfect world, you would not be judged in the workplace based on your appearance. But in the real world,  there is often a subconscious process that takes place which can affect workers based on appearance. And this is when a plastic surgery can help you.
