Nose job aftercare

After rhinoplasty surgery or commonly known as a nose job / nose surgery, you will have a small cast or splint, or sometimes just a light tape dressing on the outside of your nose. We always try to avoid putting uncomfortable dressings inside the nose. You may go home the same day, or stay in hospital overnight. We will then see you back at the clinic a week later when the external splint is removed. We often use dissolvable stitches on the outside of the nose which do not need to be removed as they disappear on their own after a couple of weeks.

1-2 weeks after your nose job

Following your rhinoplasty operation, you’ll feel as though you’ve had a heavy cold for a couple of weeks. There will likely be some swelling, bruising and perhaps some stitches. It’s a little uncomfortable, but pain is rare. You’re not going to look your best just yet, and you should bear this in mind when thinking about social engagements. It is also quite normal to feel emotional after surgery due to the anaesthesia.

8-12 weeks after your nose job

We will see you again after 8-12 weeks to check how your nose has healed. We like to follow our patients’ progress and see them regularly for twelve to eighteen months.

Our rhinoplasty team are always available to support and advise you, both before and after nose job surgery. For more information, feel free to contact us.

General aftercare advice

  • We recommend that you take one to two weeks off work
  • Avoid both the gym and flying for at least a fortnight
  • Contact sports should be avoided for six weeks, until your nose has healed and regained its normal strength
  • We also recommend that you do not wear glasses for 6 weeks following surgery
  • Some swelling, particularly over the tip of your nose can take twelve to eighteen months to completely subside, and numbness at the tip of the nose may be present for several weeks or months.

Our rhinoplasty team are always available to support and advise you, both before and after nose job surgery.
