balloon sinuplasty

This is a new technique, used to treat sinusitis, that we have introduced to the UK this year, after training in the USA. It is a smaller procedure than FESS and is performed as a day case with the patient returning to work often the day after. Currently the procedure is performed with the patient asleep and usually takes half an hour, depending on the number of sinuses treated. Rather than removing soft tissues and bone with FESS to unblock the sinuses, instead the sinus drainage holes and gutters are stretched with a small balloon.
